Hebou works together with our partners to build communities in Port Moresby and Central, improve their amenity and connect them with opportunity through our civil engineering. We go about our work, mindful of our potential effect on the social and physical environment, and we are open to the possibilities for protecting, contributing to, and enhancing our surroundings.
Our principal goal is to protect the environment and be a good corporate citizen on all our job sites, at our premises at 6 Mile, and in the communities in which we live and work.
Hebou strives to integrate protection of the environment and community support into all aspects of our construction and operations. We will achieve this by:
providing a healthy and safe environment for our staff to work and live
looking to their welfare through subsidised family health care and staff accommodation
employing locally, developing our own talent and sponsoring education within our community, in particular our sponsorship of the Sir George Constantinou Tradesperson of the Year Award
enhancing the local community through our support of the 6 Mile Health Clinic and Police Station, local churches and charities, our major sponsorship of Cricket PNG, our ongoing support to Port Moresby General Hospital’s redevelopment, and our custom with local consultants, sub-contractors and suppliers
informing impacted communities of our construction methods to minimise disruption and ensure safety, while encouraging their support and participation, and looking to enhance their overall amenity
systematically managing environmental risks in accordance with PNG legislation, client requirements, and gradual convergence with ISO 14001: 2004 Environmental Management Systems, by:
identifying environmental hazards and assessing them in terms of probability & impact
evaluating risks and attaching control measures to them
allocating responsibilities for managing these risks
auditing and reviewing our control measures to ensure effectiveness
adopting company-wide instructions for all high risk environmental activities, including run-off and erosion, hazardous chemical handling and storage, and waste management
promoting the protection of the environment through our embrace of international standards of theory and practice
